A Better You! Detoxify Your Life!

The unexpected events which occurred on August 13, 2015 will forever be imprinted in my mind.  It was the scariest moment as a mother and changed what I thought mattered the most in life and what my mission in my Perfectly Posh Business.
I was forced to remember the mind is a power thing.  What we put in our minds can be detoxing and cause havoc.  Even make us totally out of control... limp, lying on a floor unconscious.  At least that is what happened that very day to my youngest daughter, Aurora, age 16.
The day began bright and early at 9 am. The poison ivy she got at camp was getting worse so we drove into town to our local Med Express. After the Dr. confirmed this she listed the medicines she would be prescribing and oh she would also get a steroid shot to help speed up the healing process.  Her face turned pale.  "Shot???"
I could see her visibly become shaken with fear and anxiety. What happened next I truly wish I could take back...

"Aurora, it's going to be alright.  You want to hold my hand?" I said.  Consoling and talking through fears is a mom's daily life.  We are comforters. The nurse left and I said to her "well that wasn't too bad was it?"  Her eyes filled with tears.  The burn of the steroid was taking effect.  She began to sob uncontrollably.  Now any mother of teenager girls can tell you we mothers grow a thick skin to the wrath of emotions a teenager can ensue on loved ones.  Sometimes it's like performing an exorcism...LOL  She finally calmed down.  The nurse came in gave her a cherry coke and me an excuse note for her to miss school.  "Mom?  Can you hand me my phone?"  "Phew.." I thought.  She was finally calm.  So I sat down to wait for us to be release.
I reached in my purse for my cellphone and check on my team, clients and started to finish some conversations by text when I heard something sliding.  I looked up to see Aurora unconscious falling head first off the examiners table.  Lunging forward I tried to catch her fall but it happened so quickly I heard the thud of her head hit the floor.  My First Responders training kicked into overdrive.  "Aurora???  Aurora???  Can you hear me???"  I said while tapping her on the shoulder.  Her eyes shot open and body started to jerk.  I screamed on the top of my lungs.  "Somebody come here my daughter is unconscious!!!" By the time the nurses and Dr came into room she regained mobility and clarity.  Tears filled my eyes of relief. Her vital signs... good.  Blood pressure... good.  But I insisted we go to the ER since she fell on her head.
After 6 hours at the ER the diagnosis?  Aurora suffered a vasovagal response to the fear of getting a shot. And this reminded me what a powerful mind we have.
You see we all have stress and fears that come into our lives daily.  The majority of us hold on and never truly "Let it go!" as Idina Menzel beautiful sings.  I have taken pride of being a Perfectly Posh Consultant since March 31st , 2014, sharing with my friends, family and the USA of their amazing naturally-made pampering products. ow, this got me on so many levels. I just got over a 3-week case of poison ivy that I thought would never go away. I thought your daughter had an allergic reaction to the shot, because I have had them to unknown meds & shots. You don't know you are allergic until it happens. To think it was her brain reacting to fear is even more scary. There is so much info now available on neuro science, & it is fascinating. I think you taking on another way of making a difference is awesome. Look forward to more.

OMG.. wow, just reading this my blood started racing and my heart literally sank. I am soooo glad that she is okay now.. she is okay, right? What a horrible feeling that must have been. You are so right though... we do this crap to ourselves sometimes. I worked myself up one time, for a pulled tooth, so much so almost had them knock me out... at my cost, good thing I didn't... as the actually removal of the tooth.. get this,...<5 minutes.. omg... all that fuss for that. We just get in our own heads and mess things up. So glad your daughter is okay.

Wow, what a scary incident! I'm glad your daughter is okay. It's amazing how powerful our minds are. When I was young, I needed to have some blood drawn. I kept saying I was going to faint. And I did, in the elevator on the way out. The mind-body connection is amazing. I'm looking forward to getting to know you through your blogs.

Wow - You got my heart pumping...and then the vasovagal nerve...

I think the VV is directly connected to the brain which, I guess, is how it got constricted?

My heart reached out to you right at that moment you screamed. I could just feel the pain and anxiety you must have experienced. So glad your baby is ok. The mind is a powerful thing.

Oh my God! What a terrifying experience that must have been for everyone. And yes, you're right -- it's amazing what our minds can do to/for us. Thanks for sharing your story and best of luck!

I am a mother of three now adults. My daughter also passed out from a shot but it was at school and I was not there( try getting over that guilt). So after that there was no shots allowed at school for my children even if I had to pay more.

Yes, it has to be the most traumatic exposure I have ever experienced. Even after retelling the event to friends and family I still replay every moment in my mind. I will say we all talk about trust in our family and I think this horrific event has brought my daughter and I closer. 😍

Thanks Carol! I have a good friend that corrects me when I say thing like " I'm dead tired". We need to be careful what we speak into existence.

It is really unbelievable how the mind can truly cause so much havoc with our physical bodies. I'm so sorry for what your daughter went through but am glad to hear she has recovered. I'm not a nurse nor do I have any medical training but I hope I would remain calm should anything like that ever happen to either of my children. Thanks so much for sharing via #SSIC #BlogLuv
