On September 13th,
Perfectly Posh reintroduced 13 fan-favorite products, along with 4 brand-new additions. Two products that piqued my interest were Clean Break (featuring Pure Water and Fresh Birch) and No Can Do, which is Posh’s first-ever fragrance-free Big Fat Yummy Hand Crème (BFYHC). As a former consultant from 2014 to 2019, I was curious to see how these new hand crèmes compared to older formulations. After trying them, I noticed changes in the texture and appearance of my hands, prompting an exploration of the formulation differences.

What’s New with the 2024
​Big Fat Yummy Hand Crèmes?
When I used Clean Break and No Can Do, I found that while the hand crème wasn’t greasy, it left my hands with a noticeable “shine.” This observation led me to investigate the changes in the BFYHC formulas from earlier versions. Here’s how the newer formulations differ from their predecessors.
Key Differences in the 2024 Formulations
The older versions of the BFYHC (from 2016 and earlier) included some ingredients that have been adjusted or removed in the newer releases. Let’s look at the key differences:


Ingredients Removed in the New Formulations
    1.    Glycine Soja (Soybean) Oil:
    •    Older Role: Soybean oil provided rich hydration and antioxidant benefits, helping to improve skin elasticity.
    •    2024 Impact: The absence of this oil results in a lighter formulation that absorbs quickly. The “shine” observed may be due to the new balance of moisturizing agents that give the skin a more radiant appearance.
    2.    Sodium Chloride (Salt):
    •    Older Role: Used as a thickening agent to create a creamier consistency.
    •    2024 Impact: Without sodium chloride, the formula feels slightly different in texture—potentially thinner, which allows for faster absorption.
    3.    Potassium Sorbate:
    •    Older Role: Served as a preservative to keep the product fresh and stable.
    •    2024 Impact: The omission of this preservative aligns with a cleaner, more natural ingredient approach that many skincare brands are adopting.

Consistent Key Ingredients
Many essential ingredients have remained the same across the formulations, ensuring the core benefits of the BFYHC line continue:
    •    Glycerin: A humectant that draws moisture into the skin.
    •    Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil: Adds hydration and may contribute to the skin’s subtle shine.
    •    Dimethicone: Forms a barrier to lock in moisture, smoothing the skin’s texture.
    •    Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice: Provides soothing and hydrating benefits.
    •    Allantoin: Helps soften and calm the skin.
    •    Tocopheryl Acetate and Tocopherol (Vitamin E): Offer antioxidant protection for the skin.

Why Do My Hands Appear Shinier?
The increased “shine” I noticed may come from the balanced blend of ingredients like Dimethicone and Coconut Oil, which create a lightweight, protective layer that reflects light. Without the heavier consistency from Glycine Soja (Soybean) Oil, the formula leaves a more radiant finish.

     •    Clean Break (Pure Water and Fresh Birch): This hand crème delivers a light, refreshing feel without a cooling effect. It’s ideal for daily use with a crisp, clean scent that isn’t overpowering.
